LD2980CM50TR are linear voltage regulators which are mainly used in power electronic designs. Their application field covers military and aerospace, automotive, telecommunications, industrial, and consumer applications.

In applications where small amounts of input-output voltage differentials are accepted, such as in notebook computers, a LD2980CM50TR could potentially replace larger linear voltage regulators which is more commonly used.

LD2980CM50TR works by comparing the magnitude of ‘reference’ voltage,usually provided by an internal band gap reference generator, to the voltage at its input pins. As output voltage increases, the ‘error’ voltage, determined as the difference between the reference voltage and the input voltage, decreases. This decrease in the error voltage is sensed by the internal comparator inside the device which, in turn, reduces the output current inform of a feedback loop. When the output voltage reaches its steady state, the error Voltage is zero and if this condition is changed, the comparator will decrease or increase the output voltage until equilibrium is reached.

LD2980CM50TR comes in a low-profile 9-lead SOT-223 package and the operating ambient temperature range specified is from -55°C to 125°C. It is designed with a wide input voltage range making it possible to use it in air vehicles and AC/DC power systems. In addition, the LD2980CM50TR is RoHs compliant and Pb-free and is characterized for both commercial and industrial temperature ranges.
