The Working Principle
The LM239AN operates resistant to common-mode bias voltage, which determines the maximum voltages that can be applied to the inputs. In a voltage comparator circuit, the voltage source will be connected to both inputs. The same source can be connected to the positive or negative input so that the other input will be at a higher or lower voltage than the one connected to it. When the voltage levels of the two inputs are identical, the output of the LM239AN will be high. When the two input levels differ, the LM239AN output will be low.
The LM239AN is composed of a differential amplifier with hysteresis, which is needed to eliminate any incorrect output due to the insignificant changes in input voltage.
