LM25019MRX/NOPB is a Voltage Regulator DC, DC Switching Regulator. It is a synchronous buck regulator designed to deliver up to 3A of continuous output current, a wide input voltage range from 4.5V to 24V supply and adjustable output voltage from 1.028V to 17V output. It is a flexible, simple to implement, ultra low quiescent current power solution for powering microprocessors, FPGAs, DSPs, and other digital ASICs.

Working Principle

The LM25019MRX/NOPB is a synchronous buck regulator utilizing a fixed-frequency PWM architecture. It is composed of several active and support components. To ensure the regulation of output voltage, the control block acts as the core of the buck converter. It takes in the sensed voltage at the FB pin and starts to adjust the duty cycle of the PWM block in order to maintain the desired output voltage. To improve the efficiency, the LM25019MRX/NOPB employs a valley-switching mode as the critical piece which is mutually exclusive to traditional peak-switching converter. It enables a very fast transition from saturation (increasing slope) to cut-off (decreasing slope). In the valley-switching mode, the control logic detects the start of the inductor current decreasing prior to the zero-current point. This can extend the duty cycle limit to very high levels and gives it a higher efficiency than the traditional peak-switching mode.

The external compensation circuit works as the major feedback circuit to guarantee the converter operates in the given frequency range to improve the transient response. The external components are selected to ensure the system stability and the desired control loop bandwidth. All the control logic and external components work together to regulate the output voltage and current.
