LM25085MYEVAL application field and working principle
The LM25085MYEVAL board is an evaluation board designed to quickly evaluate the performance of the LM25085MMX buck switching regulator. This step-down switching regulator is specifically designed to support medium-to-high current application with output current of up to 4A. It offers flexible options for several different combinations of input voltage sources and output loads.The LM25085MYEVAL board provides a trouble-free platform for engineers to quickly evaluate the performance of the LM25085MMX and provides visibility on the simple implementation of the switching regulator evaluation.
LM25085MYEVAL Operating principle
The LM25085MYEVAL is configured to utilize a 2-phase hysteretic controller configuration. The device works by comparing the output voltage to the voltage feedback at the resistor divider network. When the output voltage drops below the feedback voltage, the 2-phase hysteretic controller will enable the high-side power MOSFET to turn on, drawing current from the input capacitor CIN. This current is then fed into the power inductor. As the current builds up through the inductor, the output voltage is increased and the feedback voltage. When the output voltage reaches the feedback voltage, the high-side power MOSFET is turned off, and the current in the inductor kicks back through the low-side power MOSFET. This induces a voltage across the output capacitance, COUT, which increases the output voltage.The process will continue as the hysteretic controller performs this switching cycle. It adds to the advantage of the hysteretic controller, as it is able to retain an efficient current path with a lower switching frequency than traditional buck converters. This switching frequency can be adjusted based on user’s requirements via the RT resistor.
