The LM2574HVMX-15 is an adjustable monolithic step-down DC-DC switching regulator, which provides up to 15A at an adjustable output voltage of 1.238V to 37V. The device is optimized for high efficiency, low noise and low input current, while delivering low output ripple and switching noise. The LM2574HVMX-15 features a variety of features not found in similar devices, such as high efficiency of 85% or greater, low ON resistance of 5.12mΩ and low current stand by of 30μA. With additional features such as adjustable soft-start, frequency synchronization, current limit protection and over temperature protection, the LM2574HVMX-15 is an ideal solution for energy efficient applications.
The LM2574HVMX-15 is mainly used for powering Vcore and I/O supplies for microprocessor systems. It is suitable for point of load conversion, on-board equipment supplies, AV electronics, computer peripherals, wireless base stations, automotive, medical and industrial applications. In addition, it provides stable DC power in order to achieve high power efficiency with low total solution cost.
Working Principle
The LM2574HVMX operates in a fixed frequency (650 kHz) pulse-width modulation (PWM) mode with auto-synchronous or forced-ondemand modes. The current mode architecture features cycle by cycle peak current limit and auto-restart impedance compensated shutdown protection. The device contains an advanced fault protection circuit featuring thermal shutdown, under voltage lockout, cycle-by-cycle current limiting, an adjustable voltage feed-forward control, low or high side ground sensing, as well as over-temperature protection. Voltage regulation accuracy is ensured by an external precision voltage reference, which can be connected to the feedback node. The device also features adjustable soft-start, pulse-skipping mode, frequency synchronization, and adjustable output current protection.
When the LM2574HVMX is enabled, the current flows through the drain of the internal N-channel MOSFET and is sensed by an external sense resistor. The sensed current is compared to a threshold voltage, and when it exceeds the threshold voltage, the current mode control circuit switches off the MOSFET. When the current falls below the current limit threshold, the MOSFET is switched on, and power is delivered to the load. The pulse-width modulation (PWM) control loop will sense the output voltage and refine the voltage regulation accuracy. If a fault condition is detected, the PWM control loop immediately shuts down the regulator, providing additional protection.
