LM2574N-12 Application Field and Working Principle

PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) is designed to control and convert electric power for maximized system performance, longevity, and cost savings. Voltage regulators are a key component of power management systems and control the voltage provided to multiple components. DC DC switching regulators are a subset of voltage regulators and are integrated into PMICs for applications that require different and adjustable voltages. LM2574N-12 is a DC DC switching regulator with adjustable output voltage and is designed for a wide range of applications. The LM2574N-12 is an adjustable output, step-up/down/inverting DC-DC converter. It has an adjustable output voltage of 0.9V to 7.5V. The device includes a voltage reference, an error amplifier and variable frequency PWM comparator. The output voltage is adjustable through an external voltage divider. The LM2574N-12 features high efficiency, 95.5%. This enables it to stay cooler even under extreme operating conditions and extends the life of the device. When it comes to the working principle of the LM2574N-12, an input voltage is supplied to the device. This input voltage is first rectified and then goes through the driver stage to the output stage. The MCU or processor then monitors the output voltage and verifies it through the error amplifier. If the output voltage is lower than the reference voltage, the PWM comparator will change its output state and increase the duty cycle of the output voltage. In turn, the output voltage is then brought closer to the reference voltage, and the cycle is repeated until it reaches the desired level. The LM2574N-12 can also be used as a buck controller. In this configuration, it will step down the main voltage to a lower voltage used by the load. The main voltage is applied to the input side of the switch, which is connected to the inductor. The load is connected to the output side of the switch. Then, the error amplifier will sense the output voltage and adjust it to the reference voltage.
