The LM2575N-15/NOPB is a monolithic integrated high voltage switch-mode regulator featuring high current output, a wide input voltage range from 4V to 42V and a fixed output voltage of 15V. The device has short circuit protection, under voltage protection and over-current protection circuitry embedded, making it an ultra low power and cost-effective DC-DC switching regulator. The LM2575N-15/NOPB is used in a range of applications such as power supply, dc-dc converters, telecom, peripheral and computing applications.

The switch-mode regulator is based on the well-known buck-boost topology, wherein the output voltage of the device is regulated by charging and discharging a smoothing capacitor in a square wave fashion with a fixed on-time regulator. The device\'s output voltage is then determined by the amount of on-time and the amount of off-time of the switching components. It operates in an asynchronous manner and hence does not require any external synchronization.

This device is designed to provide high efficiency, topology flexibility, low EMI noise and superior transient response. It features an on-off control pin which eliminates the need for an external control loop, eliminating the need for additional external components and resulting in lower cost, higher efficiency and higher power density. The device also features over-voltage protection and under voltage lockout circuitry, which prevents the device from going into an output over-voltage state or a start-up state at too low of an input voltage.

The LM2575N-15/NOPB is equipped with advanced current-mode control and offers fast transient response, line and load regulation and cycle-by-cycle over current protection. It features a current-mode control architecture with a very low feedback voltage, optimized for low cost and high efficiency designs. The device also incorporates a 2.0V threshold detects an over-temperature condition, eliminating the need for an external temperature sense circuit. The device can also handle large input voltage variations and can provide full load output current over the entire input voltage range of 4V to 42V.

In operation, the device turns completely off during the off-time period and its input current draws close to zero. The output voltage is then determined by the on-time and the off-time of the switching components. The amount of current sourced or sunk is determined by the on-time and off-time as well. The device incorporates pulse width modulation (PWM) and pulse frequency modulation (PFM) techniques to regulate the output voltage and also compensates for line and load changes. These techniques help to maintain a good efficiency even at light loads.

The LM2575N-15/NOPB comes in a TO-220 package and is designed for single layer ceramic capacitor or surface mount interface. The device is suitable for use in industrial, telecom, automotive and consumer appliances.
