LM2575SX-12 Application Field and Working Principle

The LM2575SX-12 is a component that is part of the available PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) - Voltage Regulators - DC DC Switching Regulators. It is designed to operate over a wide input voltage range, from 4.5V to 18V for the 12V output version. Working Principle

The device has two basic functions, namely to convert a high input DC voltage to a regulated lower output DC voltage and to provide current limiting and thermal shutdown protection. The switching is achieved by a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) control when a gate driver controls the turn on and off of a power switch.The operation of the device begins with a regulated 5V reference voltage (Vo) input to the Error Amplifier. This is a Closed Loop Error Amplifier used for loop control output voltage regulation. The Error Amp signals this error signal to the microprocessor for signal processing. The microprocessor signals the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) comparator to control the internal gate drive signal, which is then amplified by the external transistors to drive the output power switch.Once the output current exceeds the preset limit, the current limit detection circuit is triggered, to reduce the current limit by reducing the duty cycle. Moreover, if the device temperature has increased beyond a safe limit, theThermal Shutdown circuit will be triggered, and the device will shut off the power switch to prevent any damage due to over temperatures.
