LM2577S-ADJ is a monolithic integrated voltage regulator from Texas Instruments, commonly used as a DC-DC switching regulator. It operates from a wide input voltage range from 4.75V to 40V, and provides an adjustable output voltage of 1.23V to 37V, making it suitable for many applications. In addition, the device has a few built-in protection circuits such as over current protection, over voltage protection, and thermal overload protection.

The LM2577S-ADJ works on a switched-mode control principle. It makes use of two transistors, a pair of capacitors and two diodes as its main components. A constant peak current can be maintained in the inductor even with a wide variation of input voltage by virtue of the switching action of the transistors. When the capacitor is completely discharged, the switch opens, stopping the flow of current in the inductor. The current is then reversed and the voltage on the inductor causes the output voltage to increase.

The device is mainly used for step-down DC / DC buck converters.
