LM2594HVN-ADJ/NOPB Application Field and Working PrincipleThe LM2594HVN-ADJ/NOPB from Texas Instruments is a high voltage adjustable switch mode voltage regulator intended for use in a wide variety of applications. It is capable of operating from input voltages from 3 V to 40 V and providing an adjustable output voltage of up to 40 V. It is a suitable replacement for linear regulators in applications requiring high efficiency and low noise due to its low voltage drop and low quiescent current. Additionally, it features built-in current and thermal overload protection as well as soft-start and adjustable frequency operation.The LM2594HVN-ADJ/NOPB is a part of PMIC – Voltage Regulators – DC DC Switching Regulators, a type of circuit in which an input voltage waveform is used to generate one or more output voltage waveforms with a constant duty cycle ratio between the two waveforms. The circuit is designed to minimize losses while allowing the output waveform to maintain a constant amplitude over a wide range of operating temperatures and input voltage levels. The design of the circuit is based on the principle of switching regulators which use high frequency switching to convert an input voltage to a higher voltage of the same waveform.The LM2594HVN-ADJ/NOPB is a “buck switching regulator” meaning that it is capable of converting a higher input voltage to a lower output voltage. The circuit achieves this by using a “buck” topology in which two MOSFETs are used to regulate the current flow through the inductor. The frequency of the switching operations can be adjusted from 100kHz to 500kHz to allow for different load conditions and switching speeds.The purpose of the voltage regulator is to provide a stable output voltage over a range of input voltages.
