The LM26003EVAL/NOPB is a high efficiency monolithic DC-DC step-down switch mode power supply (SMPS) evaluation board which can be used in applications requiring low output power (3A). It is a complete evaluation board with an integrated circuit (IC) and provides users with various operating features.
This evaluation board offers a variety of applications in the DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS field. It is designed to operate across a wide input voltage range of 2.5V to 20V, providing fixed output voltage of 3.3V and a programmable output voltage of 5% from 3.0V to 5.5V. The LM26003EVAL/NOPB Evaluation Board has several features including pulse-width modulation (PWM) control, a power-on reset, an enable/disable function, internal compensation, internal broad-frequency compensation for both voltage and current mode control, and an over-voltage protection.

The working principle of LM26003EVAL/NOPB Evaluation Board is based on a buck converter that converts unregulated input voltages into regulated DC output voltage. It uses a power switch and a current sensing device to control the regulation of the output voltage. During each switching cycle, the power switch is turned on for a period of time, allowing current to flow through the inductor and charge the output capacitor’s DC voltage. During the period of time when the power switch is off, the output capacitor discharges its voltage to provide the output current.
The LM26003EVAL/NOPB Evaluation Board also has a mode select pin which can be set to either voltage mode or current mode control. In voltage mode, the power switch is turned on until the voltage from the output capacitor reaches the desired output voltage. In current mode, the power switch is turned on until the current from the inductor reaches the desired output current and then the switch is turned off.
In addition, the LM26003EVAL/NOPB Evaluation Board also employs a feedback loop that compares the output voltage to the reference voltage, when it detects that the output voltage drops below the desired output voltage, the power switch turns on and the cycle repeats until the output voltage returns to the desired value. The current-sense resistor is used to detect the current through the inductor, which is connected to the feedback loop and is used to limit the current flowing through the inductor.
