LM2673S-ADJ/NOPB is a monolithic synchronous buck switching regulator controller capable of driving up to 2A of output current. It is designed for applications that require step-down voltage regulation from a higher input voltage to a lower output voltage. It incorporates a high speed DMOS gate driver with a fixed frequency, current-mode controlled oscillator and an accurate internal voltage reference. It has a wide input voltage range from 4.5V to 30V and an adjustable output voltage from 0.8V to 16V. In addition to its excellent line and load regulation characteristics, other features include a PWM-type ripple reduction on-time control, adjustable soft-start, power-good indicator and Thermal Shutdown.

The LM2673S-ADJ/NOPB is widely used for DC-DC power conversion, telecom power supplies, computer supply systems and battery powered applications. It is available in space-saving, thermally enhanced, RoHS compliant, lead-free, 8-pin TSSOP, DD-8 and DD-10 packages. It operates from a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C, making it suitable for most electronic applications.

Working Principle: The LM2673S-ADJ/NOPB is a synchronous diode controller that consists of three main blocks: the high-speed MOSFET gate drivers, a fixed frequency current-mode control oscillator and an external reference voltage block. The MOSFET drivers are connected to the high-side and low-side MOSFETs, allowing the device to control the conduction of the MOSFETs. It pulls the low-side MOSFETs ON and OFF according to the current sensing information provided by the current-mode control oscillator and the external reference voltage input. When the current in the inductor reaches the predetermined level, it will start to pull off the low-side MOSFETs and the load will receive the available power from the input voltage.

The LM2673S-ADJ/NOPB utilizes a very sophisticated current-mode control circuit for stable performance. It monitors the current waveforms and adjusts the on-time of the MOSFETs accordingly. This ensures the device achieves very good regulation of output voltage in the presence of varying input voltage, input current, load and temperature changes.

The LM2673S-ADJ/NOPB also includes a unique on-time ripple reduction (OTRR) control, which reduces the frequency modulation ripple on the input supply and output of the power supplies. The OTRR increases or decreases the on-time pulse width according to the input / output voltage ripple.

The device also features an adjustable soft-start, which helps in controlling the in-rush current during start-up. In addition to that, a power-good indicator is included, which indicates the availability of regulated voltage output. It also includes a thermal shutdown protection which will stop the output voltage if the die temperature exceeds the specified value.
