The LM2623AMMX is a synchronous Step-Down Switching Regulator and controller with two integrated to deliver low component count solutions in cost-sensitive applications. It is specifically designed for automotive and other harsh environment applications such as conduction-cooled systems. Employing the most advanced and efficient switching technologies such as spread spectrum, skip-mode and pulse skipping, the LM2623AMMX drastically reduces electromagnetic interference and power dissipation while maintaining the highest efficiency and power output at a given supply voltage and load current. The wide 4.5-32V input voltage range allows the LM2623AMMX to be used for supplying logic, microprocessors and other power-hungry devices.

The LM2623AMMX’s application field is vast and its performance is quite remarkable. It is ideal in dc-dc synchronous Buck converter applications. It can be used to supply power to FPGAs, GPUs, “always on” voltage monitoring, single output- and dual output-voltage applications, microprocessors, and more. This makes it an ideal choice in the development of a wide range of applications, ranging from point of load (POL) converters, to automotive systems, and even in the implementation of multi-phase, multi-output power supplies.

The working principle of the LM2623AMMX is simple enough. The edge-triggered synchronous rectifier block driver contains two MOSFET drivers, which allow interleaved/non-interleaved operation, as well as asynchronous or synchronous rectification, depending on the application and external MOSFETs used. The MOSFETs are driven by totem-pole drivers at 100 percent duty cycle to ensure that the voltage across the inductor is maintained at the programmed output voltage. This ensures both the highest efficiency and output current capability. The proprietary spread spectrum feature on the LM2623AMMX allows for a reduction in the EMI noise generated by the switching components, as it reduces overall switching harmonics.

When it comes to precision, the LM2623AMMX utilizes spread spectrum technology, which greatly reduces the amount of EMI generated to free up resources. The controller also integrates a high-precision voltage reference that can be adjusted to provide accuracy of ±0.5 percent while requiring a relatively low number of external components. The inductor current limit can also be set to tightly limit the maximum allowable current, making the LM2623AMMX ideal for applications such as GPUs and high-end FPGAs.

The LM2623AMMX also features an on-chip digital temperature compensation module for temperature compensation of the voltage reference. This ensures that the input voltage can be accurately tracked over temperature, even in automotive applications. Additionally, the integrated watchdog timer provides additional system safety, as it kicks in when the regulated output voltage is not in the strict tolerances requirements.
