The LM26400YMHX/NOPB is a synchronous step-down DC-DC converter which enables power conversion with high efficiency. It is a member of a family of DC-DC switching regulators applicable to wide range of applications, making it an ideal choice to achieve reliable and low power solutions.
The LM26400YMHX/NOPB is a monolithic, fixed frequency, current mode synchronous step-down DC-DC converter that can deliver up to 1.8A continuous output current with excellent load and line regulation. It incorporates an internal high side MOSFET and low side MOSFET, which make it a highly efficient single switch solution. Its design includes current sensing scheme by sensing the low side MOSFET inductor current, which is suitable for both synchronous and non-synchronous rectification with an external diode.
These features combined with high efficiency, programmable current limit, low quiescent current and short-circuit protection, thermal shut down protection and valley current mode make the LM26400YMHX/NOPB a perfect choice for applications where efficiency and accuracy are key requirements.
The LM26400YMHX/NOPB operates by utilizing current controlled switch mode (CCSM), which is also known as “Pulse Width Modulation” (PWM). In this mode, a pulse width modulated (PWM) signal is generated using an oscillator whose frequency is determined by an external capacitor. The PWM signal is continuously compared to an internally generated sawtooth voltage waveform. When the PWM signal voltage crosses the waveform voltage, the output switch is enabled; when the waveform voltage is higher than the PWM signal voltage, the output switch is disabled. By controlling the width of the PWM signal, the output voltage can be leveled off.
In order to maximize the efficiency of the LM26400YMHX/NOPB, the output voltage is maintained at a very low voltage ripple by using a minimum on-time operation. This results in a minimum number of switching losses and maximum efficiency of up to 94%. The low Voltage ripple helps to reduce the size of output filter components and thus, the total bill of materials cost.
The LM26400YMHX/NOPB output voltage can be set to up to 3.3V from an input voltage range from 2.5V to 6V with an external voltage divider. It includes an overvoltage protection (OVP) of up to 20V and an undervoltage lockout (UVLO) at 2.5V. The output voltage is accurately regulated from 0.5% accuracy state to its full rated output voltage with ±0.5% output tolerance.
The LM26400YMHX/NOPB offers a slew rate control for smooth transition between synchronization off and on states as well as a wide range of frequency synchronization, adjustable from 100kHz to 2.2MHz. The internal synchronous rectifier can be used to control the power dissipation of the part, using either an active or a forced passive pre-charge. The LM26400YMHX/NOPB also offers a soft start feature, which helps to avoid current transients during startup period.
The LM26400YMHX/NOPB DC-DC switching regulators represent a powerful and efficient solution for a wide range of applications.
