Application Fields and Working Principle
The LM2665M6X is a versatile DC to DC converter, meaning that it can be used to convert nearly any DC power supply into a regulated output voltage. It is ideally suited for a variety of electronic devices and applications, including portable electronics, computing and communications equipment, industrial power supplies, security cameras and audio/video electronics.
The LM2665M6X employs a switching topology to convert one input voltage into the desired output voltage. It employs a pair of MOSFETs, a rectifier diode, an inductor and a switched capacitor to produce an output voltage according to the following steps:
When power is applied to the LM2665M6X, the switching MOSFETs are turned on and off in sequence. This switching action causes the input voltage to be alternately decreased and increased by the amount of the MOSFET’s on- and off-resistances. The switch action also causes the voltage across the inductor and the capacitor to be alternately increased and decreased. The capacitor then stores this energy and the inductor ensures the voltage is constant. The voltage across the capacitor is then rectified by a diode and then amplified and converted to the desired output voltage.
The LM2665M6X also incorporates some innovative features that improve performance and reduce power consumption. Its switching frequency can be adjusted from 200 kHz to 2 MHz, allowing for improved power efficiency due to reduced power losses. Its programmable output current limit feature can be used to limit the maximum amount of output current to prevent damage to the components. Its output voltage accuracy has been improved to +/- 0.8% with the addition of an on-chip voltage controlled current source.
