LM2672N-3.3, a DC-DC switching regulator and a member of Texas Instruments’ Simple Switcher family of high-efficiency step-down switching voltage regulators, is a highly integrated device that is designed to provide an easy-to-use solution for dc-to-dc requirements. It is well suited for applications requiring step-down converters in the 2- to 15-volt input voltage range and 400mV to 1.2V output voltage range with up to 2A output current capability.

The LM2672N-3.3 is designed to use an external N-channel power MOSFET, sense resistor and compensated 1.2V reference voltage. Its switching frequency is internally set at 500kHz and programmable via the soft start time and frequency adjust pins. To minimize output voltage deviations due to load, line voltage and temperature changes, the integrated error amplifier ensures tight, no-load to full-load regulation and fast response to line and load transients.

Application Field: The LM2672N-3.3 DC-DC switching regulator is well suited for a variety of applications such as chargers, hot-swap controllers, power supplies and audio amplifiers. It is particularly useful in battery systems where low dissipation is desirable since it offers the high efficiency and low noise performance.

Working principle: The LM2672N-3.3 DC-DC switching regulator has a wide input voltage range of 2 to 15V. The integrated high-side FET driver and low-side FET driver accurately control the power-switch in the buck regulator architecture. It also contains a frequency adjust and soft-start control to regulate the switching frequency and to reduce the inrush current. The device also contains an internal 1.2V voltage reference, a voltage feedback amplifier and a loop-compensation network to produce a stable output voltage.

The LM2672N-3.3 DC-DC switching regulator is designed with an adjustable frequency function which allows the user to adjust the switching frequency from 200kHz to 1MHz for higher efficiency at lower output currents. It enables the user to program the switching frequency according to the specific application and/or environmental conditions. It also has an adjustable dead-time control to prevent shoot-through in the power MOSFETs.

The device also offers user-programmable soft-start and output voltage rise-and-fall times to minimize the inrush current during start-up and output voltage droop during over-current and/or over-temperature protections. It employs a output voltage track-and-hold algorithm which reduces the output voltage ripple. The device also offers a thermal shutdown and current-limit protection.

In summary, the LM2672N-3.3 is a high-efficiency and low-noise, step-down DC-DC switching regulator that is designed to provide an easy solution for dc-to-dc requirements.
