The On-chip Thermal Shutdown circuit monitors the temperature of the device, and if the device reaches a temperature above the thermal trip point (150C) the device will turn off in order to protect itself from further damage. The LM2679S-5.0 also offers under-voltage lockout, which prevents the device from turning on until the input voltage reaches a certain level. This prevents LC resonance and output overshoot.
