LM2679SD-12/NOPB, which belongs to PMIC-VoltageRegulators-DC DC Switching Regulators, is a current mode stepdown DCDCSwitch regulator. The regulator supports 500KHz frequency, maximumSwitch current 2.5A, and the space-saving D-pak power package in a Sot-223package. It provides for 3A continuous pass transistor switch current with up to14V. It is well suited to battery powered systems. The LM2679SD-12/NOPBintegrates built-in protection while allowing the use of small surface mountcomponents per the design. The voltage mode control prevents subharmonicoscillations, and keeps the switching loss under control. Moreover, theregulating feedback loop voltage can be set to a range from Vout/2 to Vout,which makes the heat-sink loss minimized. In addition, its excellent outputregulation is further ensured by the monolithic synchronous rectifier. Theoutput voltage is available in two ranges, namely 0.7V up to 5.5V and 0.6V up to6.0V.

The LM2679SD-12/NOPB consists of a voltage mode, current-mode control with latchoff circuits to control the frequency, a high side bipolar transistor withdriver and a low side MOSFET switch. The internal switch is basically a lowdrop-out current regulator (LDO) with its feedback loop set to 0.6V. In operations,the voltage mode control prevents subharmonic oscillations, and yet it keepsthe losses in the switch and driver under control. The connection of its pinsfollows the PWM control in order to avoid any subharmonic oscillations.

The features of LM2679SD-12/NOPB include an adjustable frequency from 10kHzup to 500kHz, standby current 2mA, under-voltage protection of 5.0V, and overtemperature protection with fault protection lock out. The automatic phaseincrease, advanced phase skip, and pulse width modulation control also helpmaintain system reliability and stability. Furthermore, the advanced modulationcontrol, or adaptive phase control, increases efficiency while running at lownormal load currents. Its wide input voltage range from 9V to 14V enables it tobe used in many applications.
