LM2682MM is a monolithic integrated switching regulator circuit, which is also a part of the extensive family of adjustable and fixed voltage regulators from National Semiconductor. It has been designed to provide low cost, minimum parts and low noise solutions for 5V to 6V up converters and voltage regulators. Application field
The LM2682MM is essentially a step-up DC to DC converter, which can easily provide an output voltage of 5V to 6V from a 5V source. It is available in a four pin ultra small, TO-236 package, containing an all p-channel MOSFET power switch and an adjustable linear regulator. The output is regulated to within ±3V of the reference voltage, which can be adjusted precisely with an external resistor or trimpot, allowing it to be used in various applications such as:

- Cell phone power supply
- Mobile device power supply
- Li-ion battery charger supply
It also finds applications in PCs, server systems, portable audio equipment, and other low voltage, high current step-up dc-dc conversion applications where space is an issue.
Working principle
The LM2682MM is based on a SRM( Switching Regulator Mode) controller. This controller uses an open loop architecture and utilizes an internal comparator, an oscillator and an output driver to control the internal switch, which in turn controls the output voltage. The reference voltage is derived from a voltage divider consisting of two external resistors, R1 and R2. This buffered reference is then compared to the feedback voltage of the output. When the feedback voltage goes below the reference voltage, the SRM controller then triggers a pulse width modulation (PWM) output driver to turn on the switch. The internal MOSFET switch is then used to charge the inductor, which then stores the energy in its magnetic field. When the switch turns off, the stored energy is then released and is used to charge the output capacitor, which then filters the output voltage. The inductor then waits to be charged again when the switch turns on, continuing the cycle. The entire process is repetition, ensuring a stable and regulated output voltage.
