Working Principle
The LM2686MTCX/NOPB is capable of providing both switching and linear regulation. When the RESET pin is asserted, the output voltage of the device will adjust to the programmed value. The device implements a standard voltage feedback loop, where the voltage error signal is compared to a reference voltage and the result is used to control the switching frequency of the internal switch.
The LM2686MTCX/NOPB contains an internal synchronous P-channel MOSFET and an internal N-channel MOSFET, which together form a buck converter. During the high side switch turn-on, the voltage across the inductor is ramped up. As the a switch is turned off, the energy stored in the inductor is transferred to the output capacitor, providing the output voltage for the LM2686MTCX/NOPB. The device also uses an external low-side switch that is used to discharge the output voltage for soft-start and stop operation.
