LM2687LDX

The LM2687LDX is a DC-DC switching regulator. It is a monolithic, low voltage, step-up DC-DC switching regulator for 2-cell Li-Ion or 2- to 6-cell NiMH/NiCd applications. It works as a small footprint, low power regulator ideal for battery powered applications that require small size and high efficiency.

The LM2687LDX utilizes a current mode step-up topology to provide a constant output current from a battery or other energy source. This feature makes the LM2687LDX ideal for applications where a constant output is required. Application Field and Working Principle of LM2687LDX

The LM2687LDX can be used in low noise sensitive applications; including medical, industrial, and consumer equipment. It provides a high output voltage while maintaining high efficiency to reduce battery current consumption. It can provide up to 9A of output current and 95% efficiency.

The LM2687LDX works by regulating an input voltage to a predetermined output voltage. The output voltage is generated by the switch circuit, which is composed of an inductor, a diode and a power MOSFET. The controller stage, which is powered by a low voltage supply, senses the output current and drives the switch circuit to maintain output current regulation. This can be done either in a continuous or a burst mode. The frequency of switching can be adjusted in order to optimize efficiency and reduce noise.

The LM2687LDX also features features built-in protection against input UVLO (under-voltage lockout), over-current, and over-temperature protection. Additionally, an integrated under-voltage protection circuit prevents reverse current or current spikes from the output battery which otherwise can lead to catastrophic failure. This feature makes the LM2687LDX ideal for high reliability applications.
