The LM2696EVAL evaluation board is an integrated, powerful and high performance DC/DC & AC/DC off-line switching power supply reference design. The evaluation board is designed to measure and evaluate the performance of LM2696 controller in an off-line, power-by-wire application. Utilizing the LM2696 controller with an external MOSFET, the board is able to provide the high efficiency for an AC/DC or DC/DC system requirements. The LM2696EVAL evaluation board is suitable for residential/office AC/DC switching power supply applications, as well as for automotive/industrial DC/DC systems.

The LM2696EVAL-2 application field is mainly used for AC/DC or DC/DC system applications, such as common residential/office AC/DC switching power supplies, high-end automotive DC/DC power supplies, and industrial/military applications. Specifically, the evaluation board is applicable in many applications such as single- and multiple-output applications, ATX power supplies, notebook adapters, telecom adapters, twitching AC/DC transformers, switching DC/DC converters, and other consumer electronics.

The working principle of the LM2696EVAL evaluation board encompasses a few key principles. The first is linear current-mode control, which enables the LM2696 to accurately regulate output current with high efficiency, allowing the power supply to produce a wide range of output currents, including regulated, system and mother/daughter outputs for efficient device operation. On-chip current sensing eliminates external current sensing loss components resulting in increased efficiency. The second principle is over-voltage protection (OVP), which capabilities the board to detect an over-voltage condition and protect the system from damage due to an over voltage on the input/output. This protection feature is designed to reduce power dissipation when an over-voltage condition is detected, helping to design-in maximum safety. Last, but not least, the board is developed with active-shutdown operation support, which benefits active operating logic even when the system is in shutdown mode.
