LM2698MM-ADJ Application Field and Working Principle
The LM2698MM-ADJ is a high-frequency DC-DC step-down switching regulator with voltage adjustable feature. It is one of the most efficient and compact DC-DC switching regulator available today. This switching regulator is ideally suited for battery powered and data communication applications, such as cellular phones, personal digital assistants (PDA), digital cameras and other portable electronic devices.The LM2698MM-ADJ includes an on-chip MOSFET switch, low-ripple voltage feedback and a high-precision voltage reference, so that voltage regulators can regulate accurately while minimizing the size and complexity of an external control circuit. This switching regulator is capable of operating at frequencies up to 1 MHz, which gives excellent line and load regulation characteristics. Furthermore, the LM2698MM-ADJ uses pulse width modulation to regulate the output voltage, eliminating the need for linear mode regulation.The LM2698MM-ADJ is able to provide the output voltage regulation with a load transient response time of less than 20 mV/μs and a line transient response time of less than 40 mV/μs, thus reducing the output voltage ripple. The output voltage can also be adjusted from 3.3V to 40V with a single resistor, making it ideal for applications where multiple output voltages are needed. In addition, it provides protection from short-circuits, output pin latch-up, input undervoltage lockout, thermal shutdown, and overvoltage protection.The LM2698MM-ADJ has a wide input voltage range of 6V-42V and is capable of delivering up to 2A current output, making it suitable for most portable applications. Furthermore, high-efficiency can be achieved with the device, thus reducing power dissipation and saving energy.The working principle of LM2698MM-ADJ is quite simple. The regulator starts by drawing a current through the input voltage to the MOSFET switch, resulting in a voltage drop across the switch. This voltage drop creates a PWM signal that controls the duty cycle of the output voltage. The voltage reference ensures that the output voltage, regardless of load variations. is precisely regulated. The output voltage is then filtered and regulated by a low-ripple voltage feedback loop.
