.The LM2743EVAL is an Evaluation Module (EVAL) for the LM2743 off-line, constant frequency, current mode, switch mode power supply (SMPS) controller IC, featuring input voltages from 80 – 300VAC. It combines an input rectifiying bridge, an inductor, an output voltage tracking circuit, a frequency control circuit, a voltage control circuit, a power switch overcurrent protection, and a voltage regulator into one simple and efficient system. The LM2743EVAL module enables real-time evaluation and testing of the LM2743 IC in DC-DC and AC-DC SMPS applications.
LM2743EVAL applications include standby power supplies for equipment such as digital TVs, VCRs, DVD players, computer peripherals and other systems requiring low power consumption and high efficiency. The LM2743EVAL operates at a fixed frequency and allows the user to convert mains voltage into a programmable output voltage. In addition to the LM2743EVAL, a wide range of external components such as inductors and transformers may be used to configure the power supply.
The LM2743EVAL comprises a single chip controller IC LM2743, an auxiliary winding for voltage sensing, a variable resistor for voltage adjustment, a power transistor, a snubber circuit, a flying capacitor and various other components. With this configuration, the LM2743EVAL is able to provide a constant voltage output as well as a power factor correction using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) and Frequency Modulation (FM) control techniques. The LM2743EVAL provides several operating modes allowing the user to select from constant voltage, constant current or constant power level output.
The LM2743EVAL\'s operation is based on the principle of high frequency alternating current (AC) which is converted into a direct current (DC) output by a converter. The voltage at the input is rectified, filtered and smoothed to ensure a clean DC output. The converter consists of a transformer, a control IC, a flying capacitor and a diode bridge. The control IC manages the power transfer from the primary to secondary side of the transformer and also ensures that the output voltage is kept at the set value.
The LM2743EVAL module also features a frequency control circuit which allows the frequency of operation to be changed remotely. The frequency control circuit allows the user to adjust the frequency of operation without changing any other component in the system. The LM2743EVAL’s frequency control circuit uses an Oscillator Control Register to change the frequency of the oscillator in real-time. This allows the user to accurately set the operating frequency of the LM2743EVAL module to match their specific application needs.
The LM2743EVAL module also features a range of protection features which make it suitable for use in a wide range of power supply applications. These features include over-voltage protection, over-current protection, as well as a thermal protection feature which will shut down the IC if the temperature of the device exceeds the set threshold.
