LM2776EVM application field and working principle

The LM2776EVM evaluation board is a type of DC-DC or AC-DC (off-line) SMPS (switched-mode power supply). This evaluation board is designed and intended to be used in the development, evaluation and performance monitoring of a DC-DC or AC-DC (off-line) SMPS for applications ranging from simple distribution of power to complex monitoring systems. This evaluation board provides a simple and effective way to evaluate the performance of the LM2776 switch mode power supply controller taken from its off-line test platform.

The LM2776EVM evaluation board is heavily loaded with features and is designed to work with the orderable evaluation board, the LM2777EVM, which adds several extra functions, similar to those available on the in-circuit test platform. This new evaluation board allows the designer to measure the accuracy of the system as well as the efficiency of the system. The LM2777EVM may also be used along with the LM2776EVM as it adds additional evaluation functions such as power line frequency response tests and voltage regulation accuracy checks.

The LM2776EVM evaluation board is designed with 6-pin header connections to allow the connection of up to 6 external test points, which can be used to measure the output of the system, including voltage and current. This evaluation board also has input and output voltage, current measurement and short circuit output protection. The evaluation board also provides an inrush current protection and also includes an internal thermal protection circuit which will protect the system from excessive temperature rise.

The evaluation board is also designed with an LED display which will help the user to monitor the system performance and troubleshoot the system. The LM2776EVM also has an inbuilt connection to the PC through which the user may download the data and also set the parameters of the board such as duty cycle or frequency. The evaluation board also features a user selectable input voltage which allows the user to connect it to an AC or DC source and hence measure the performance of the system in both alternating current and direct current applications.
