Introduction

LM2852YMXA-1.2 is a monolithic integrated circuit (IC) designed for use in DC-DC switching regulator applications. The device is a high efficiency, low component count step-down switching regulator intended for battery-powered applications, including portable/chargeable products and other portable electronics. The device contains a high-efficiency 2A synchronous step-down regulator controller for handling wide input voltage ranges, along with an integrated low side MOSFET. It provides high performance and flexibility in a small 3.0mm x 3.0mm single-side board package.

Application Field and Working Principle

LM2852YMXA-1.2 can be used in a wide array of applications including, but not limited to, phones, media players, cameras and other portable applications. The device uses a switch mode regulator concept, allowing conversion of a DC input voltage to a lower regulated DC output voltage. It features a PWM control scheme with synchronous rectification, an adjustable output voltage and maximum output current of 2A. The basic operating principle of the LM2852YMXA-1.2 is as follows: The coil current is increased when the internal PWM ramps up the MOSFET drive signal according to the external feedback via the FB pin. The output current increases until either the load current or maximum switch current limit has been exceeded. If the load current and switch current limit has not been exceeded, the output voltage will rise until it reaches the target voltage level, at which point the PWM is reset. Upon reset, the PWM cycle will begin to ramp down and the current through the MOSFET will slowly fall off, resulting in an output voltage that is slightly lower than the target voltage.

The device also provides a set of protective features that enhance the overall performance and EMI (Electro Magnetic Interferences) characteristics of the power supply. The LM2852YMXA-1.2 features under voltage lockout (UVLO) protection, soft start, over current protection (OCP) and thermal shutdown (TSD) protection. The over current protection is adjustable with a single resistor. The device is available in the 3.0mm x 3.0mm QFN-20 package and operates over -40°C to +125°C temperature range.
