The LM2852 is a step-up converter which is capable of generating an output voltage greater than the input voltage. The device works by first rectifying the input voltage, then converting it to a higher voltage before regulating the output voltage.The device uses two levels of switching to achieve efficient conversion. The first stage of conversion is referred to as "discontinuous mode" and is used when the load is low. In this mode, the power switch is turned off while the inductor current discharges into the capacitor. Once the inductor current reaches zero, the power switch is turned on and the cycle repeats.The second stage of conversion is referred to as "continuous mode" and is used when the load is high. In this mode, the power switch is kept on and the inductor current is directly fed back to the output. This direct feedback results in higher efficiency and lower current ripple at the output. It is this combination of discontinuous and continuous modes which allow the LM2852 to efficiently convert voltages up to 15V.Conclusion
