The LM2917MX-8 is a voltage/frequency and frequency/voltage converter specifically designed for pulse-width modulation (PWM) and related applications. This device combines a highly accurate frequency-to-voltage (F/V) converter, voltage-to-frequency (V/F) converter, and Quadrature/A-B encoding logic.The LM2917MX-8 is capable of wide input frequency/voltage ranges with specified linearity and close tracking between the voltage-to-frequency and frequency-to-voltage outputs. It is well suited for use in many applications, the most widely use uses is the generation of analog signals such as dc level and frequency via PWM.The LM2917MX-8 works in one of two modes: voltage-to-frequency mode (V/F) or frequency-to-voltage mode (F/V). Depending on the mode of operation, it uses one of its input terminals, a and b, as either an analog voltage (Vin) to be frequency-modulated or a frequency (Fin) to be voltage-modulated.In V/F mode, the voltage input controls the output frequency of the device. The output frequency is a linear representation of the input voltage level. The input terminal Vin is connected to the variable voltage source and the output terminal Fout is the output frequency. In F/V mode, the inverse operation is performed. The frequency input controls the output voltage level of the device. The output voltage is a linear representation of the input frequency. The input terminal Fin is connected to the variable frequency source and the output terminal Vout is the output voltage.The LM2917MX-8 also provides two additional outputs: Enable and Quadrature. The Enable output can be used to enable or disable the device, while the Quadrature output can be used to generate both linear and quadrature encodings of the voltage or frequency input.The LM2917MX-8 is a highly accurate and cost-effective device for generating an analog signal from either a voltage or a frequency source. It is especially well suited for pulse-width modulation (PWM) applications, where it can generate highly accurate analog signals from either a voltage or a frequency input.
