The LM2931CT/NOPB is a linear voltage regulator from Texas Instruments. It is a three terminal positive voltage regulator with output current up to 1.5A. It provides voltage regulation via on-chip resistors, current limiting, and over-temperature protection. LM2931CT/NOPB works through an internal PNP regulator. The output voltage is set by an external resistor divider. When the load current is applied to the regulator, the base-emitter junction of the PNP transistor is forward biased leading to current flow through the transistor. The current flow through the transistor generates a voltage drop across the base-emitter junction which is equal to its Vbe voltage (approx. 0.65V), and hence output voltage is regulated to a value equal to the input voltage minus 0.65V. This method provides very good regulation and line and load regulation. The regulator also has current limiting and over temperature protection. The internal current limit is typically 10mA.

In addition to excellent line and load regulation, the LM2931CT/NOPB also offers temperature stability and low output noise, making it suitable for applications that require low noise and good drift.
