The LM3495EVAL/NOPB evaluation board is an efficient, DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS solution for evaluating the capabilities of the LM3495 power factor correction and current-mode boost controller. The LM3495EVAL/NOPB is comprised of a full-bridge diode rectifier circuit connected to an LLC resonant converter and an SMPS power stage. This evaluation board is designed to evaluate the features of the LM3495 boost regulator NFC controller with an ac-input transformer, two capacitors, and power resistors.
The LM3495EVAL/NOPB board has been designed to demonstrate the combined capabilities of the LM3495 boost regulator NFC controller and the LLC resonant converter. The LM3495 combines a power factor correction (PFC) motion feedback guidance circuit and an active-clamp boost PFC controller in a single device, providing high efficiency power factor correction with low harmonic distortion. The chip features an innovative cascoded active clamp with advanced boost PFC operation that provides a fast transient response, providing precise output voltage stabilization. The laterally diffused MOSFETs (LDMOS) on the board are rated for up to 40V operation, delivering power load capacitive ratings up to 400μF.
The LM3495EVAL/NOPB application is designed to demonstrate the low Start-up current Boost PFC operating mode of the LM3495. The power stage is based around two matched LDMOS, configured as a half bridge with a Schottky diode return swing. The EMI filter provides both input EMI and output EMI filtering, which is imperative for meeting the current EN55022 and EN55024 requirements. The board includes all the necessary components to build a complete quad 4-pin supply, with power factors greater than 0.9, and achieved line-regulation (∆V)values below 1%.
