LM3691TL-1.8EV is a part of the Evaluation Boards - DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS line. The product is designed to be a solution to low-cost and hysteretic converter applications. It greatly simplifies switching power supplies with only two external components, coupled with low power consumption. Its power efficiency can reach up to 95%. It is suitable for wide-range input, constant Vout and low-output voltage settings, with two typical operating supplies (1.25V/1.8V).
LM3691TL-1.8EV’s working principle is based on current mode control, which offers high-speed response, wide AC & DC input range, and external fast transient response. The current mode control method uses a saw-tooth waveform and a current high-gain amplifier to monitor the current through a sense resistor in the power circuit. This waveform references the output voltage of the circuit to set the conduction of the switches that are connected to the output flying capacitor, acting as a charge-discharge mechanism. The small differences between the saw-tooth waveform and the output voltage of the circuit generates the error signal of the circuit, which is used to control the current mode control by PWM modulation.
LM3691TL-1.8EV uses the power stage to regulate the output voltage, featuring an internal MOSFET switch, a synchronous rectifier and a high-voltage MOSFET driver. It is also equipped with a two-stage thermal protection, an internal power on circuit and a latch circuit. The MOSFET switch is used to provide necessary voltage conversion for the switch power supplies. The synchronous rectifier helps to improve the efficiency of the power supply. The high-voltage MOSFET driver is used to switch off the gate of the main MOSFET switch if an overload condition occurs.
The integrated output voltage monitor circuit constantly monitors the output voltage and generates an output voltage monitor signal to the integrated overload control circuit to provide fast and safe over-voltage protection. The thermal protection is enabled to turnoff the main switch if temperature nears the thermal threshold of the board. The internal power on circuit ensures that the output voltage is accurately regulated even after a power interruption. The latch circuit is responsible for the resetting procedure after the power on circuit has detected an over-voltage condition.
