LM4510SD/NOPB is a voltage regulator from PMIC – Voltage Regulators – DC DC Switching Regulators family. It is a high performance synchronous buck regulator with an integrated high-side, low-side MOSFETs, providing an output voltage range of 0.7V to 5.5V. The device features an input voltage range up to 28V, allowing applications to use unregulated batteries, such as three Li-ion/ Li-polymer cells and 48V telecom supplies. The LM4510 requires only a few external components such as a few capacitors and inductors to provide a complete synchronous DC-DC solution.The LM4510 operates with an input voltage in the range from 2.5V to 28V and provides an adjustable output voltage from 0.7V to 5.5V. The output current is limited to a maximum of 5.0A. The switching frequency is adjustable by using an integrated oscillator which can set up a frequency between 500KHz to 2.2MHz. The integrated slope compensation ensures cycle-by-cycle current sense regulation, allowing the input and output capacitors to be sized smaller than other traditional architectures. The LM4510 also incorporates a wide range of safety features such as over-voltage protection and undervoltage lockout, thermally-limited current, thermal shut-down and output current soft-start. Moreover, the device has a shutdown current of less than 2uA.The LM4510 can be used in many applications due to its flexibility such as wireless handsets, cellular basestations, LCD flat-panels, power management for PC, notebook and other battery systems. The device is available in the small form-factor 5-pin SC70-5 and 5-pin SOT23-5 packages, providing a wide range of options for system designers to use.The LM4510 works in synchronous buck regulator mode. The heart of the device is an integrated voltage loop, which compares the output voltage with an internal reference voltage to drive an error amplifier. The output of the amplifier is fed to the gate of the low-side MOSFET and it controls the duty cycle of the high-side and low-side MOSFET switches. Many external components are connected to the LM4510 to provide a complete synchronous buck solution.The LM4510 requires an external inductor connected between the output of the input voltage and ground. The inductor is the main component that stores energy during the high-side MOSFET activation time, and releases it during the low-side MOSFET activation time. The capacitors connected to the VIN and VOUT pins filter the input and output voltages and reduce its ripple.The device is designed to protect from voltage variations or sudden surges from the input line. An overvoltage protection circuit detects voltage conditions that may damage the device. It senses the input voltage and optimizes the output voltage. Under-voltage lockout shuts off the device if the input voltage drops below the minimum operating voltage.
