The LM4510SDX/NOPB is a wide Input Voltage, High Efficiency, step-down DC/DC switching regulator controller from Texas Instruments. It features a high switching frequency of 750 kHz minimum, ultra-low quiescent current of 40 µA, and an internal slope compensation circuit that provides excellent line and load transient response performance. The LM4510SDX/NOPB is available in a 4mm×4mm Pb-free QFN package and operates over the temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. Its fixed output voltages of 5V, 3.3V, and 1.8V are optimized for power sensitive applications.The LM4510SDX/NOPB utilizes a voltage mode architecture to control the entire DC/DC conversion cycle. The device features an operating supply voltage range of 4.5V to 28V and can operate from input sources up to 42V before requiring external clamping. Unlike other controllers with single-bit Dither modulation, the LM4510SDX/NOPB uses a two-bit Dither modulation technique that enables precise output voltage control. The wide input voltages, high efficiency, and precise output voltage control make the LM4510SDX/NOPB ideal for applications that require compact, low-power, and energy-efficient switching regulators.The LM4510SDX/NOPB controller uses an input pulse-width modulation (PWM) technique to generate the switching pulses required to regulate the output voltage. The input PWM oscillator is adjustable between 500kHz and 1MHz and can be synchronized to an external clock. The device includes an integrated low-side gate driver that senses the startup of the power transistor and prevents it from turning on until the input voltage is above the start-up threshold. This feature prevents false triggering of the device which can cause significant performance degradation.The LM4510SDX/NOPB also features an over-temperature protection and a wide range of output voltage programming options. The over-temperature protection automatically shuts down the output when the temperature of the device exceeds a safe operating limit. The programming of the output voltage is done using an external resistor divider connected to the FB pin. The output voltage of the LM4510SDX/NOPB is adjustable from 0.8V to 1.175 times the VCC voltage.The LM4510SDX/NOPB is also able to handle inrush current which is beneficial in applications with large input capacitance. The internal soft start circuitry reduces peak inrush current by gradually increasing the VCC voltage and limiting the switching frequency on start-up. The device is also equipped with an enable pin that allows the user to turn off the regulator output for an extended length of time. The device also features an internal current limit and an under-voltage lockout to protect the device from damage due to an inadequate input voltage.The LM4510SDX/NOPB is suitable for a wide range of applications, including point-of-load (POL) and computing systems, medical and industrial equipment, and battery-powered applications. Its wide range of operating temperatures, wide operating supply voltage, and high efficiency make it ideal for a variety of applications.
