The LM53635NQEVM Evaluation Board allows users to quickly and easily evaluate the LM53635 OFF-LINE PWM Motor and Fan Controller. The device provides current-mode, high-frequency, high-efficiency, pulse-width modulation (PWM) control for applications with an input voltage range of 4V to 18V. The LM53635NQEVM is specifically designed to provide a platform that allows the user to gain full insight into the performance of the LM53635 under real-world operating conditions.

The LM53635NQEVM Evaluation Board is specifically designed and tested to provide the greatest flexibility to evaluate and program the motor and fan speed and direction characteristics of the LM53635. This versatility enables rapid evaluation of different fan and motor types. In addition, on-board power supplies provide an additional bulk capacitance source to improve operating conditions. Both ground-referenced voltage and current readouts are provided, allowing better clarity of signal measurements.

The LM53635NQEVM design architecture consists of the LM53635 controller, DC/DC buck converter, buck booster, and linear regulator designs. The buck converter and buck booster can work in either PWM or burst modes, providing the user with an efficient and flexible platform. The LM53635 provides true-differential current sensing throughout the design, ensuring accurate current readings regardless of the operating conditions. In addition, closed-loop operation of the buck converter is enabled, providing stable control of the engineering inputs into the handle’s coil.

The operating principles of the LM53635NQEVM are based on the use of pulse-width modulation (PWM) control of a DC/DC buck converter. The LM53635NQEVM design causes the buck converter to drive a voltage across a handle coil of a DC motor (when operated in PWM mode), or a regular inductor (when operated in burst mode). In addition, the LM53635NQEVM also operates linearly regulated supplies from a wide input voltage range. The linear regulator is also used to regulate the current through the handle coil.
