LM5642 is an evaluation board specially designed to address the application needs in DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS. This board has been built around the LM5642 chip, which could be used to build ac/dc converters from 2W to multiple kW range.
The device is specially suited for providing power converter solutions, with remarkable operational features such as output power range up to 74 W and wide input voltage range of up to 330VAC. Additionally, it also provides complete protection for over-voltage, under-voltage as well as short circuit conditions. It also has the capability to provide instant current and output voltage feedback, making it easily adaptable for providing precise output regulation with minimal energy losses. Another attractive feature of the device is its high power density of 6.5W/cm3.
The working principle of LM5642 works as follows; As soon as the LM5642 is powered up, its onboard control circuitry will immediately identify the input source, whether it is direct current or alternating current. Thereafter it will convert this input source into a regulated output voltage, thus providing a sufficient supply of power for the connected equipment.
The LM5642 also has its own self-regulation feature, which can detect the load variations and adjust its operation accordingly. This feature helps to ensure both load sharing and maximum efficiency, also reducing variations in power output. Furthermore, it also provides maximum output accuracy to the connected components, even in presence of varying line and load conditions.
