Working Principle

The LM56CIM uses a standard thermistor signal conditioning and amplification circuit, which consists of a resistor and amplifier. The resistor functions as a resistive bridge to measure the temperature input and the amplifier amplifies any temperature changes at the bridge.The LM56CIM uses a 2-wire temperature range of -20 to +80 degrees Celsius for most sensors. For higher ranges, 4 and 6 wire sensors are used. When a temperature is measured, it is converted to an analog signal which is then processed by the amplifier. The amplified signal is sent to the microcontroller which then outputs the temperature as a digital signal in the form of RS232 or 4-20mA.
