The LNK500G-TL is a highly integrated offline switcher capable of providing an output voltage of 12V from within 120-264VAC input. It integrates a 550V power MOSFET, oscillator, frequency jittering, low power standby mode, PWM, current sensing, and additional protection functions into a single IC. It has a compact SIP package (25.6 mm, 5 pins) and is suitable for all types of offline applications such as PC power, set-top box, smart TV, and printer applications. This power switcher IC provides a cost-effective solution for customers with a low cost and low system complexity.

The LNK500G-TL is designed to provide highly efficient and accurate power conversion in a variety of offline applications including Set Top Box (STB) power and PC power supply. Working Principle
The LNK500G-TL is equipped with a hysteretic control topology to achieve high efficiency, accurate power control and low standby power. During standby and light load operation the IC operates in Burst Mode operation (discontinuous conduction mode, DCM). In this mode of operation, the internal power switch is turned on periodically based on the set burst width and burst frequency. This mode of operation helps the device to reduce the amount of energy consumed during no-load or light load conditions while still maintaining accurate power control.
At heavier loads (>20% of the total maximum load), the IC automatically switches to fixed frequency, constant off-time PWM control mode. In this mode, the IC accurately regulates the output voltage while operating in a quasi-linear fashion to provide high output power accuracy and efficiency. The IC also incorporates frequency jittering to reduce the EMI in critical applications. The jittering of the switching operates at a narrow frequency band to reduce the radiated EMI. The IC also includes soft start and additional protection features for current limit, and brown out protection.
The LNK500G-TL is also equipped with low power standby and zero-standby support functions to help customers to reduce system power consumption. The low power standby mode allows the chip to enter the point of load (POL) mode during low power standby for Amazon Dash refill or smart Netflix power control. This helps the system to reduce power consumption from switcher and output ripple.
