The LNK562GN is a precision mains-powered offline switcher integrating a power factor correction (PFC) boost converter and an adjustable output flyback converter. The device provides high efficiency and low standby power levels due to the integrated power factor PFC and the secondary-side synchronous rectification technology. As a result, the LNK562GN is suitable for applications needing either high power or to achieve a low standby power level, such as LED Bulbs, LED driver, Smart LED Lighting, LED spotlights, LED panel lights and other home lighting.
The LNK562GN is a monolithic SMPS controller that integrates a high side switch, low side switch, PFC boost switch and a synchronous rectifier. The PFC boost part of the SMPS controller is designed to regulate the output power, providing approximately constant output power over the ac line range of 90 to 265 VAC. The output current is regulated by the duty cycle and operating frequency of the PFC boost switch. The PFC boost switch provides very efficient rectification with high efficiency and low EMI noise.
The adjustable output of the secondary part of the SMPS controller, typically a flyback type, is typically used to drive LEDs. The circuit provides very low output ripple and only modest transformer sizes, resulting in large cost savings. The device also provides a frequency jitter feature to control EMI. The LNK562GN includes a leading wave detection which can sense the zero voltage crossing of the wave and provide additional switching frequency reduction when facing high-surge input. Output power can be easily adjusted by the internal feedback resistor setting.
The LNK562GN features very light-load performance with low standby power consumption. This is due to the high efficiency of the main power switch, which utilizes a current-modulated control scheme for improved load regulation. The control input can be easily adjusted with the external circuitry of the device to optimize system performance. The secondary side synchronous rectification reduces the conduction losses in the output switch, significantly improving the efficiency and power saving at light-load conditions. The device also provides active burst mode operating which will be very critical in green power implementations, as the enabled “operating frequency drop-off” feature, for long life and small size.
