LNK563GN is a type of AC/DC converters and offline switchers used for negative output applications which feature a high efficiency current mode architecture, providing low total harmonic distortion. It is especially suitable for a variety of applications such as portable media, game consoles, computers, car audio systems and set-top boxes.
The LNK563GN features switching frequencies of up to 300 kHz and is capable of driving up to 14 A maximum output current. Its power factor correction (PFC) helps to keep the ripple low and reduce the need for an external output cap. It is compliant with European Eco-design regulations and boosts up to 90 % efficiency to minimize power loss.
The built-in protection features of the LNK563GN include over voltage protection (OVP), open loop protection (OLP), overload protection (OLP), over temperature protection (OTP) and programmable line under voltage protection (LUVP). These protect the device from unreliable input line conditions and protect both device and user from damage.
The device also has an adjustable soft-start time, external synchronization, burst mode operation and an enable pin for external control. This allows for applications that can be programmed to consumer minimum power and increase lifetime.
The working principle of the LNK563GN device is a high-efficiency current mode switching system that loves feedback voltage, current and temperature. During operation, it conditions the input voltage to a DC level, and then controls the current flow to the output through the switching cycles. It achieves optimal efficiency at the highest frequency while maintaining the high fidelity at low output ripple levels.
Using a bridge topology, the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) extracts the maximum power available from the input source and helps to achieve maximum efficiency. As a result, the output current of the device is regulated by varying the frequency of the switching cycles and/or by adjusting the duty cycle of the switch.
The LNK563GN has overload protection and over temperature protection. The overload protection prevents the device from drawing too much current from the source, and the over temperature protection shuts down the device if it detects any signs of thermal runaway.
