Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in electronic equipment as a component of power supplies, filters, signal decoupling, and transient protection.

A Capacitor is a device for storing electricalenergy, and the physical arrangement of an aluminum electrolytic capacitor generally has two conductive surfaces that are electrically separated by a dielectric layer of insulating material. The so-called “electrolytic capacitors” are a type of capacitor that utilizes an electrolyte, the liquid or gel-like material, to improve the efficiency of the capacitor.

The LNX2W122MSEFBN aluminum electrolytic capacitor is the smallest in an MSE range of low ESR devices, with a capacitance value of 1800µF to 3500µF. It is built with low-ESR technology and has a wide temperature range of -45 to 105⁰C due to the use of a unique electrolyte-oxide formulas.

The LNX2W122MSEFBN is mainly used in industrial UPS, general inverter, power module, LED lighting, solar and wind power, switching power supply, DC/DC conversion, electric vehicle, and high-end medical equipment applications. Its working principle includes a number of sometimes complex physical concepts, such as the dielectric screening effect and polarization of its components, the effects of temperature and voltage on its performance, and the impedance of its materials.

The dielectric screening effect is a phenomenon by which the presence of an electric field causes charged molecules in the dielectric electrolyte material to align to create a virtually continuous series of microscopic electron optically resonant cavities which act to partially screen the electric field inside the capacitor. The polarization of its components refers to the electrically induced dipoles, which are formed when the charge field of an electric field causes neighboring atoms to polarize their electron distributions. As the voltage increases, these dipoles tend to reorganize to increase the capacitance.

The effects of temperature and voltage on the performance of LNX2W122MSEFBN is equally critical. As temperature changes, the capacitance of the capacitor decreases as the internal ions tend to spread out and reduce the dielectric screening effect. Furthermore, as the voltage increases, the capacitance may also increase due to the reorganizing effect of the dipoles. The impedance of the capacitor also changes with temperature, voltage, and frequency as electrons and ions move in the field.

The combination of its size, low ESR value and wide operating temperature range make the LNX2W122MSEFBN aluminum electrolytic capacitor a near ideal component for a range of power applications.
