Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are energy storage components composed of an anode made of aluminum foil, a dielectric oxide film, a barrier layer, a solid electrolyte, and an external cathode member. They are commonly used in circuits for applications such as filtering, noise suppression, energy buffering, public frequency tuning, energy storage, and frequency conversion. These components are also used for signal coupling, phase compensation, and pulse rectification.

The LNX2W182MSEFBN is an aluminum electrolytic capacitor which has a unique and special design. It is a double-layer device with two layers of a solid electrolyte between the anode and cathode, which makes it more conductive and able to store more energy. Working Principle

The working principle of an aluminum electrolytic capacitor is quite simple. This electrostatic field creates an electrochemical reaction which occurs between the two electrodes, the positive one which is composed of electrolyte and the negative one which is the aluminum foil. Since the aluminum foil is much more conductive than the electrolyte, electrons move freely in the aluminum layer, while positive ions are attracted to the negative electrode.

This charge transfer creates a capacitance which is proportional to the surface area of the two electrodes. Since the capacitance of an aluminum electrolytic capacitor is dependent upon its surface area, the device can have a high capacitance in a small size. Due to the advantage of enhanced capacitance, aluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in filter circuits and as noise suppression components.

Application Field

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors have wide applications in various electronic devices, such as computers, home appliances, power tools, automotive systems, test equipment, medical electronics, and much more. Since these components can take more power than other capacitors, they are often used in power-hungry systems where frequent power cycling is required, such as in digital communication systems.

In addition, aluminum electrolytic capacitors are also used in applications where large capacitance values are needed, such as in motor drives, high voltage rectifiers, and converters. As these capacitors are quite stable in most conditions, they can also be used in applications with continuously changing environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, and mechanical stress.
