Its working principle is based on the fact that the voltage regulator consists of a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) controller and a couple of external MOSFETs (Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor).

When the voltage regulator is powered up, the PWM controller sets the duty cycle of the MOSFETs to regulate the output voltage. When the voltage on the supply side goes higher, the duty cycle is reduced, which lowers the voltage on the output side. Since the duty cycle is automatically adjusted, the output voltage will always remain at the desired level, even when the load varies.

When the load varies, the current also changes accordingly, so the PWM controller adjusts the duty cycle by adjusting the frequency of the pulses being sent to the MOSFETs. This will result in the load current being regulated at the desired level, that is, when the load current increases, the duty cycle is increased, and when the load current decreases, the duty cycle is reduced.

When the system is on standby or shut down, the PWM controller sets the duty cycle of the MOSFETS to 0%, and all the loads connected to the system will be turned off.
