LP5912-3.0DRVR is a linear programmable microprocessor reset IC that can supply up to 900mA of output current and features low ground-current operation and fast start-up capability. It is a 3V voltage regulator that enables the connection of a microprocessor, memory, and other logic circuits to the power wire of an application and allows the power of the system to be managed by the microprocessor. The LP5912-3.0DRVR also provides voltage measurement of input and output voltage, fault protection, soft start, and other features that protect the system from incorrect operation or unexpected power outages.

LP5912-3.0DRVR provides a high performance reset for applications in which the reset signal needs to be active even during the power on or power down sequence. It supports both active-high and active-low reset signals, allowing it to be used in both single-ended and multi-ended systems. The LP5912-3.0DRVR can also implement auto reset on power failure. Additionally, the LP5912-3.0DRVR can be used in systems that include microprocessor peripherals, such as I/O controllers, graphical processors, and audio processors.

LP5912-3.0DRVR leverages a current-mode step-down converter which consists of an internal power switch, a transformer, a low power-loss current sense resistor, and a current-monitoring voltage feedback circuit. In the current-mode control scheme, the conduction phase is determined by sensing the pulse width modulated (PWM) pulses driven from the voltage feedback circuit. When the output voltage is lower than the regulating voltage, the power switch is enabled, current flows in the transformer, and the output voltage rises. When the output voltage is higher than the regulated voltage, the power switch is turned off and the output voltage drops.

Still, LP5912-3.0DRVR achieves advanced protection features with embedded thermal and current over-load protection circuits. Runtime thermal protection uses an analog feedback circuit to shut the IC down when it exceeds a predetermined temperature. The current over-load protection prevents excessive output current. An under-voltage lockout (UVLO) circuit shuts the regulator off when input voltage dips below the right threshold. A power-on reset (POR) circuit ensures that the output voltage is stable when the LP5912-3.0DRVR powers up.

LP5912-3.0DRVR can be used in any voltage regulator application that requires a low power and fast turn-on capability. It is ideal for laptop and tablet computers, LED lighting, and appliance control. Because of its low quiescent current, low output voltage ripple, and high efficiency, LP5912-3.0DRVR can be used as a cost-effective solution for most power management applications.
