An Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) is a motion sensing device integrated with a multi-axis accelerometer, gyroscope, and a magnetometer. IMUs are used to give a reference of the motion of an object in space, particularly those related to the attitude, angular rate, and acceleration of the object. To enable accurate measure of magnetic field, the LSM303CTR incorporates a large 14 bit ADC (Analogue to Digital Converter) with a resolution of 2 mG (milli Gauss) that works on a measurement range of ±8 G (Gauss).
