The LT4275AIMS#PBF is an adjustable current-mode power over ethernet (PoE) controller designed for applications such as powering of optical and remote sensors, VoIP phones, and other IEEE 802.3af compliant PDs on an Ethernet network. The LT4275AIMS#PBF is a fully digital power supply controller with embedded PWM controller, dc-dc converter, AFE, and gateway. It is compliant with the IEEE 802.3af specification and is designed to regulate the output current and the output voltage of the PoE PDs.
Power over Ethernet (PoE) is an important technology as it allows devices with limited power requirements to be powered by the same data cables they use for communication. By simply replacing a traditional power supply with a PoE compliant device, the greatest advantage of PoE is its ability to reduce the number of cables and associated power supplies for the same application. The LT4275AIMS#PBF is a cost-effective, reliable, and secure alternative for DC-DC converters in many PoE enabled networks. It supports multiple channeling modes and provides up to 25.5 W of power which is the ideal power for remote and distributed PDs.
The LT4275AIMS#PBF supports both active classification and automatic classification as defined in the IEEE 802.3af specification. In active classification, the host device activates the controller and then communicates with the controller to determine the power demand of the device, while in automatic classification, the controller autonomously powers devices and adjusts the current and voltage depending on the device\'s demand. This ensures optimum performance and secure operation of the device.
The LT4275AIMS#PBF incorporates an integrated microprocessor that monitors the current and voltage levels of the connected devices and regulates the output based on its programmed thresholds. This ensures that the system remains within safe limits and avoids any catastrophic failure due to excessive load demand or power supply voltage fluctuation. In addition, this highly efficient power controller helps reduce power dissipation and improves lifetime of the connected devices.
The LT4275AIMS#PBF controller provides an integrated loop compensation with adjustable frequency, soft start as well as selectable turn-on transient response, allowing flexible control of the output during start-up. This capability helps reduce peak inrush current while starting up the DC-DC converter and the connected PDs. It also includes several low power modes such as forced PWM mode and reduced power mode to increase the efficiency of the connected devices.
Moreover, the LT4275AIMS#PBF comes with an integrated adjustable overload protection. The overload protection is designed to protect the PoE system from over-current faults caused by sudden increase in the load circuit demand. The integrated high-side current sense circuitry also provides more accurate current detection and is protected against transient spikes.
