PMIC - Battery Chargers are types of ICs specifically designed for charging Li-ion and Li-Polymer batteries in applications such as phones, media players, tablets, laptop computers and other handheld devices. The LTC4120IUD#PBF is a dual-input, bidirectional, high-efficiency current mode battery charger IC which supports simultaneous buck-boost charging and discharging at up to 12V. It is designed to work in applications such as 5V USB-C wall adapters, 5V USB-C PD (Power Delivery) sources, 12V car chargers and fixed voltage sources such as 28V Telecom chargers.
The LTC4120IUD#PBF integrates two synchronous buck converters operating up to 500kHz and two synchronous Boost converters operating up to 350kHz, allowing for simultaneous charging and discharging. The integrated Boost regulator operates in either buck or boost modes, allowing for high efficiency operation in a variety of conditions. The LTC4120IUD#PBF also features high-efficiency current mode control using either a single inductor or two coupled inductors.
The LTC4120IUD#PBF supports a wide range of input voltages from 0V to 20V. This allows for improved system flexibility, as a single charger can be used to support many different input voltage sources. The device also features adjustable current limits, which allows for precise control of system power flow when charging or discharging the battery.
