LTC7862IFE#TRPBF is a Multiple-Output Digital Controller IC designed to supply industrial and other demanding applications. It features a highly efficient scaleable multiple outputs and provides selectable, integrated overvoltage, overcurrent and thermal protection. The IC supports an output current of 25 Amps and up to 16 power converter outputs.
The LTC7862IFE#TRPBF is a synchronous two-phase DC/DC converter controller, specifically designed to control boost, buck, and inverting types of converters with current mode control. Its integrated high performance digital communication interface allows for easy system monitoring and control. It ensures excellent dynamic response and high efficiency over a wide range of output load current, by utilizing the peak current mode control with true RDS(ON) sensing. The LTC7862IFE#TRPBF can be used for high-current synchronous and nonsynchronous boost, buck and inverting applications.
The LTC7862IFE#TRPBF has strong overcurrent protection capability and it is able to monitor the current level of each phase and limit the peak current to a set level. The current limit level is adjustable with an external sense resistor. When the current sense reaches the set level, the LTC7862IFE#TRPBF automatically turns off both MOSFETs to avoid overcurrent damage. In case of a major fault, the controller enters into a protection mode where it shuts down both channels and keeps the output off until it is reset.
The LTC7862IFE#TRPBF also has an overvoltage protection feature. It monitors the output voltage and turns off the output if it is higher than a specified level. The output voltage is limited to a maximum voltage, thus avoiding damage caused by an excessive level. The overvoltage level is adjustable with an external resistor.
Thermal protection is also an integral part of the LTC7862IFE#TRPBF. It monitors the die temperature and protects the device from high temperature operation. In case of excessive heat, the device reduces the output power and re-regulates the output as the temperature decreases. During thermal shutdown, both channels are shut off and the IC requires a hardware reset.
The LTC7862IFE#TRPBF has a digital communication interface that enables it to be used with a wide range of communication protocols such as I2C, SMBus, PMBus and V series. The communication port can be used to monitor and adjust the output levels, set warning and fault thresholds, and manage multiple output voltages. The built-in digital voltage controller can perform the voltage setting, adjustable phase compensation and line compensation, making the LTC7862IFE#TRPBF a powerful solution for a wide range of applications.
