Application Field:

The MALCE45A uses Human Body Model (HBM) ESD transient protection for lead lengths of up to 100 mm. It provides robust protection against unwanted voltage transients induced by lightning, inductive load switching, and power line transients. Working Principle:

MALCE45A devices are operated using two main principles; electrostatic discharge and breakdown. Electrostatic discharge occurs when a high voltage potential between two materials is suddenly reduced, releasing a high-frequency voltage pulse. The TVS diode absorbs the electrostatic energy, dissipating it safely, and preventing any voltage transients from reaching the downstream component.The breakdown principle is based on the breakdown voltage of the device; when the voltage across the diode exceeds its breakdown voltage, it turns the diode into a low-resistance path and provides protection against high-voltage transients. The MALCE45A is therefore able to handle high-voltage pulses up to 400 W peak pulse power.MALCE45A TVS diodes are designed for bidirectional protection, as most transients occur in both directions. They feature a low capacitance of 2 pf, allowing the diode to operate in high frequency applications up to 5 GHz. They also offer excellent differential and common mode rise times up to 3 ns, ensuring that all transients are safely diverted away from the protected circuit.
