Hot swap, or inrush current limiting, is a feature of power regulators, PMICs and Power Modules that prevents large current spikes when a power module is connected or disconnected from a power source. It limits the maximum current allowed to pass through a device without the device failing, becoming damaged or overheating, which can be very dangerous in some cases.MAX15068ATP+G2Z is a fully integrated hot swap controller with programmable current limit, power good monitoring and power sequence control functionality. It is designed for use with high-performance, low-power DC-DC converters. The hot swap controller reduces the risk of accidental device failure or damage and protects equipment from system faults or power outages.The MAX15068ATP+G2Z is an ideal hot-swap controller for a wide range of applications, including industrial automation, medical, automotive, industrial communications and computer peripherals. It is also suitable for a range of power designs, including isolated and non-isolated DC-DC converters, switching power supplies and linear regulators.The MAX15068ATP+G2Z enables the safe, reliable operation of power modules in industrial, medical, automotive and communications applications. It integrates all the major features necessary for hot swaps into a small package. These features include overcurrent protection, current limit, power good signal, and power sequencing functions.The MAX15068ATP+G2Z has a wide input voltage range of 3.3V to 42V, making it suitable for a variety of input power sources. The device has an adjustable overcurrent threshold down to 12.5mV, and the current limit can be preset via external resistor with a range of 0.5A to 24A.The MAX15068ATP+G2Z also includes an input UVLO (Under Voltage Lock Out) monitor and open-drain power off (“power good”) signal generation. This allows external circuits to monitor the status of the circuit, as well as control the power-on/power-off sequence of the system.The MAX15068ATP+G2Z also provides built-in power sequencing and synchronization.
