MAX17600AUA+ is a power management integrated circuit that acts as a gate driver, enabling faster switching as well as enhanced protection from short circuits and inrush current issues. The device comes with three independent low-side MOSFET drivers which support NPN, PMOS, PNP and N-channel MOSFETs for a variety of applications. It also incorporates an adjustable gate resistor and an overvoltage protection gate.

Working Principle

MAX17600AUA+ is a high-speed low-side driver, which works by providing gate drive to low-side MOSFETs. It contains three independent gate drivers, each of which is capable of driving up to 1.2A peak output current. The gate drivers are protected against over-voltage and short-circuit conditions. Each of the gate drivers are also protected from thermal runaway and can handle a maximum operating temperature of 150°C. The adjustable gate resistor (R GATE ) can be used to set the output voltage for the MOSFETs, and a lockout function is available for further protection against a short-circuit condition.

In order to control the MOSFETs, the MAX17600AUA+ can be operated in three different modes: Gate-On, Gate-Off and Gate-PWM. The Gate-On mode turns MOSFETs on with maximum current, which is controlled by the adjustable resistor R GATE . The Gate-Off mode turns off the MOSFETs immediately, while the Gate-PWM mode can be used to control the duty cycle of the MOSFETs by varying the frequency of PWM signals.

The MAX17600AUA+ includes features such as a UVLO (Undervoltage Lockout) threshold, an adjustable overvoltage protection and two voltage references. The UVLO threshold can be used to prevent the driver from starting up when the input voltage is too low. An overvoltage detection circuit is incorporated for enhanced protection from overvoltages. The two voltage references are used to control the output voltage of the MOSFETs.
